"Wind City Hero" is a solarpunk comic I created for a digital arts course at the University of Waterloo. It is set in a dystopian future where extreme weather events have become part of daily life. The story follows Shanna, a courageous hero in the year 2200, as she races to save her city from a dangerous windstorm by repairing vital wind turbines. The comic highlights themes of resilience, innovation, and environmental sustainability, envisioning a world where clean energy and technology work together to combat the challenges of climate change.
To create this comic, I used a combination of design tools and AI for a seamless and dynamic result. AI played a key role in generating Shanna’s futuristic super suit and the dramatic imagery of the wires being fused together, using real-life reference photos for added realism. I transformed photos into comic-style textures using Photoshop, blending them with illustrations to craft a vivid and immersive visual style. For the cityscape, I integrated the wind turbines from Big Hero 6 into the real-world landscape of downtown Kitchener, creating a futuristic yet familiar setting. The bold title font and captions were designed in Illustrator, while the final layout and panel arrangement were completed in InDesign. This meticulous process allowed me to blend creativity, technology, and storytelling into a visually striking solarpunk narrative.
